# ICB

### What is ICB

Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB) is a hierarchical four-level system that classifies companies based on their main source of revenue. This system has been globally recognized and used by some of the biggest financial institutions, such as: London Stock Exchange, NYSE Euronext, and NASDAQ.

### ICB Version in Use

The system categorizes companies and securities across a hierarchy of four tiers. We are currently using ICB Version 4.0 - which was released in June 2009 and includes 10 industries, 19 super-sectors, 41 sectors, and 114 subsectors.

By utilizing the ICB, our platform allows users to analyze and compare companies within the same industry sector or subsector, enabling effective benchmarking and industry-specific insights.

For more information on the industry classifications used in this platform, see [this reference.](https://www.jseect.co.za/sites/default/files/jse_document_manager/RW/Internal/Indices/FTSE%20JSE%20Africa%20Index%20Series/Rules%20%26%20Classification/Industry%20Classification%20Benchmark%20%28ICB%29.pdf)
